ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Accepted And My Personal Thoughts
Unless you live under a social media bridge, you’ve certainly heard of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. This challenge has taken off like a rocket and could end up being the best thing (hope) to date for those dealing with this devastating, deadly and incurable disease.
ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease doesn’t get a lot of media coverage, until now, and it really hasn’t been researched in a big way; with only 30,000 Americans infected at any given time, there’s simply no financial incentive for large research and mega-pharma companies to invest big money into. As sad as that sounds, it is way it is.
Like I mention in the video, my family is very familiar with ALS. We watched my sister’s husband go from a champion kick boxer to a completely paralyzed person that can not move, eat, or even breathe without the help of machines and family. The expense is more than anyone except the super-rich could handle and life becomes a series of scary close calls, constant visits to the hospital and complete financial dependence on below-par social/medical programs.
To Those That Protest The Challenge Due To Pro-Life Beliefs
I can certainly understand your concerns regarding stem cell research. Actually, I guess I don’t completely understand why anyone would rather aborted embryos be discarded into a bucket rather than researched to help others SINCE neither your or my beliefs will change the laws on the books right now.
Anyway, I don’t want to get into a debate here, I just want to say, “Then don’t donated“. Or donate to the ALS families themselves. There was a list floating around and I can look for it if anyone is interested.
YOU can still accept and take the challenge to help spread awareness. OR, at the very least
you could allow a group of people that has been suffering in silence and effectively being ignored by the masses for decades to enjoy their day in the spotlight without you feeling the need to piss your opinions all over the wall.
To Those That Protest The Challenge Due To People Getting Rich
The same goes for those crying that donations are just making the rich even richer. I’d be happy to meet any one of you in Columbus, OH and I will personally take you to a devastated family (including kids that never heard their daddy talk or seen him walk) so YOU can explain why you think THEY should be without hope because a handful of people are getting rich. Please think things through before posting your self-righteous attacks all over social media.
To Those That Protest Due To The Waste of Water
Kiss my ass.
