Blog Comment Subscription Overload

email_relief.jpgI’ve become very active lately in commenting on other blogs. As my blogger friend list grows so does the workload. It doesn’t feel like work because I actually enjoy what I do but is time consuming. Keeping track of those blog and forum comments can get confusing when your leaving around a hundred a week.

Last month I posted about BackType.com that helps us keep track of our comments. With the help of comment subscriptions we can see when someone else responds to the posts. Those email notifications can quickly become overwhelming when mixed in other day to day emails. I decided to create a dedicated email to use for comment subscriptions. Then I started using the ‘manage your subscriptions’ option on older notifications so they would go to my new email account.

Within just a few days I realized how much easier things have become. My regular email account isn’t loaded with dozens of comment notifications. Now I simply log-in to my new email and spend a few minutes scanning emails that are generated from my ever increasing blogging addiction ~ I mean activity ;)

  1. It’s great to hear about the different ways people manage their comments — thanks for the post.

Re BackType: you might be interested in using BackType Subscriptions, a feature we released recently that lets you subscribe to posts that don’t have the “Notify me of followup comments via e-mail” option that this blog has. You can add posts using our bookmarklet and change your BackType account to use your new e-mail address.

Let me know if you find it useful.

  2. Thanks Christopher, I wasn’t aware of that feature. I’ll check it out. It almost looks like Google alerts the way we can set it for real time or once a day/week. Very nice.

100 per week?? Amateur. ;) hehe

I tried the separate email thing and gave up on it. You’d be surprised how fast your reading becomes, so I just keep it all in one.

  4. Hi Dennis, I have to admit that if you can keep it straight anyone can. You are hands down the comment king ;)
