MySpace seems to be dead, put in the dirt by Facebook. The site is over run by teenagers (I know, they were first) and online whores but it always was. So what changed? For one thing I feel like I’m going into an epileptic seizure with all the flashing banners and ads everywhere. That’s after waiting ten minutes for the page to load.
The purpose of this post was going to be about using my MySpace friends as a starting point when developing your own MySpace page if you are new to it and looking for marketers. It took less than a minute to understand why I don’t log in any more – MySpace sucks! MySpace is a very boring place right now but I’m hoping they’ll get a clue and improve it so my past efforts don’t go to waste. I actually had my profile page up to a PR of 5 when I was on there promoting everyday. That was when ExtremeEzine was 05/10 too. Yep, the good ol’ days.
I’ve been pretty selective who I’ve accepted as a MySpace friend over the years. From the beginning I decided to limit those friends to other internet marketers and online business owners. I wasn’t interested in big boob bimbos and rock star wannabes, I wanted to stay within my niche. I know 600 MySpace friends is tiny but, like I said, I was very selective and never used automated crap to build the list.
Should I Flush MySpace?
I’m wondering if I shouldn’t just cut my loses and drop MySpace altogether. I have enough time-wasters. What do you think, should I flush MySpace?
Feel free to send me a friend request and next month when I log in again I’ll probably accept the invitation. At this point it’s better to just concentrate on FaceBook I guess. Here’s mine, what’s yours? Feel free to add your facebook link in your comment.

Oh Brian,
I can’t believe that you would think about “flushing” MySpace.
I have never had a Myspace page, profile, or friend. It just never crossed my mind as a place I wanted to be.
I am sure there were advantages to being there but, I felt there were more disadvantages. Maybe because I had a kid that one day may want a page there & I did not think I would ever allow that.
Cait gets hits to her blog from Myspace Search. Sometimes she gets lots of hits. Many of her blog post are the kind of topics the Myspacer like. So, the site does have a purpose. But, for the search, you don’t have to be a member.

It’s true Sheryl, MySpace isn’t the safest place for children and young adults. They have certainly had their share of negative news reports.
I didn’t know you could have an off-server site come up in their search results, I’ll have to learn that one.
My kids are older with the youngest being 21 already but all four have a MySpace account. My oldest boy has gotten several viruses and trojans on his system from MySpace. That’s why we have five computers in this house and I refuse to have a sharable network with any of them.
I hadn’t even considered that aspect of it when I said MySpace sucks so now they suck even more. When you go to a site and have to be careful not to click any links there’s a problem.

OMG MYSPACE!!!1!!111!!! Lyk itz fer only kewl kids n stuf coz lyk old ppl cant be on therr. Duuuh!
Myspace sucks so bad, it makes me want to vomit.
All I ever see on there is Scene Kids bragging about their 45,0000 friends (None of which they know) and how they are cyber dating this one uber hot guy. Most likely a 50 year old pedophile.
I wanted a MS when I was younger, but my Mom kept saying “NO, NO, NO.” A few of my friends have them and hate them. They say they always get the weirdest comments from strangers, and it’s full of creeps. So then, my fascination for it went away. Lolz!
I have a friend that let me into her account when she was getting rid of it – I played with it to learn some code and stuff. I built a really cool background out of CSS and I have to thank MS for that. O_O!
And like Mom said, I get allot of hits from Myspace. The reason is I write Tutorials on how to get Rainbow Text for your MYSPACE profile. And therefore all the Scene Kids who want a “Uber kewl p-file fer therr fndz 2 reed” come to my blog.
Myspace sucks. But it’s good business. <- I liked saying that!
Apparently when someone goes to the Search Bar and types in keywords that I use, first comes up a crap load of adds – (by google and I bet myspace gets money for those) – and then it's like any ol' search, I come up wherever I come up.
Screw MS. I'ma go Tweet!

If you already have an account with freinds I would keep it, you can generate solid amounts of traffic from there using the proper tools.

You’re right John, it took a lot of work building that friends list.
Hey,
Yeah, Facebook is more for “us” adults. I keep my Myspace mostly to keep in touch with nieces and nephews, but they are slowly switching too. I think once everyone I care about switches, I’ll delete my page. I think your marketing will do much better on Facebook.
Hi Robbie, can’t you stay in touch with nieces and nephews the way I do? You’re right though, most of us are on Facebook now.

I agree with you guys, I never liked MySpace and was surprised to see so many people using it. People love the way you can customize your page, while on Facebook you’re stuck with the same plain design that everyone else has. But those MySpace pages are so ugly and cluttered, I don’t know why people even like them so much. Maybe I’m just not in the right demographic… -Jason
Good point New Jersey Movers, most people probably shouldn’t try to build their own page. Many of those MySpace pages are loaded up with a so much garbage content it strains my 4 gigs ram almost to the breaking point.

Presuming you burn your blog’s RSS feed via feedburner, log into that account and set up one of those rotating HTML banners and insert it into your myspace page. There you go, page well spent.
