RoSPA Attacks Duffy’s Diet Coke Commercial

duffy_1.jpgduffy_3.jpgOk, I admit it. I might be addicted to Duffy.

Duffy is a Welsh singer-songwriter. She was born 23 June 1984, a year after I got married so I feel pretty old :) but I like the sound. Perhaps it’s the accent.

duffy_4.jpgAnyway, I’m addicted to advertising too and I ran across this blog post Duffy’s Diet Coke ads condemned over road safety fears. It looks like the uptight simple minded busybodies at RoSPA have nothing better to worry about in the World of Safety than a silly commercial with Duffy not wearing a bicycle helmet. Oh well, I guess that’s the world we live in today. Over-react on the small stuff and ignore the real concerns.

duffy_5.jpgActually, I love Duffy but that’s an awful TV ad lol. I’m sorry, but I know she can do much better than that. I’ll blame it on the director and producers. After all, I don’t know them :)

duffy_6.jpgI was playing around with my Print Screen and Gimp while watching Duffy videos online so I uploaded several small photos. Ain’t she cute? Aww…

I think it is a bit ridiculous that a commercial showing her not wearing a helmet & having proper lights is a big deal. Let’s be real.

Diet Coke is not even good for kids! heck, it’s not good for anyone. Don’t worry about getting hit by a car – the pop it self will give you a slow death. Three byproducts of aspartame are methanol, formaldehyde, and formate. Let’s see, consuming wood alcohol & Formaldehyde are 2 problems that out weigh wearing a helmet.

If parents would get a set & start doing their job of teaching kids right and wrong then they would not have to expect a commercial to do it for them.

As far as the helmet – holy cow, I have never owned a helmet. There are to many laws telling us what to do. If you want to live on the edge & ride without a helmet – wooohooo – do it. Better yet, never leave your house, that way you may be safe. That is unless it catches on fire, oh crap, what is the law on that?

The laws force parents to give their kids drugs, will dictate what medical care to give, what to teach them….yet, we have the highest number of kids ever in the court system. Some of these groups need to start worrying about real problems rather than nit picking about a commercial. If her 30 seconds causes a problem in your life – then turn off the TV and spend that time doing something productive.

  2. That’s a good point Sheryl, I bet if someone looked at the stats there would be more deaths from things like coke than bicycles. I thought in the US had the stupid government. I guess it’s like that all over.
