The national health-care debate in the United States is not a new issue. It’s roots go back to 1945 when President Harry S. Truman proposed a national health-care system in a Presidential message to the United States Congress.
We hear the same things every time the issue of national health care is pushed back into the headlines.
- “The U.S. is the only major industrial nation that doesn’t have universal health-care coverage“
- “The United States can not afford a national health care program“
- “The United States can’t afford not to have a national health care program“
- “Medicare is already the world’s most expensive publicly run health-care system“
- “A government run health insurance program will cause businesses to drop employee coverage“
- “Long waiting times will occur causing many to become sicker or even die“
- “Fewer students will go to medical school causing a shortage of doctors and health care professionals“
Now it seems the debate is really getting out of hand. Inflammatory scare tactics like ‘Death Panels‘ are being used on one side while the other side tries to hurry it along without debate like Bush did with the big bank bailouts.
Rumors and even out right lies are prevailing by both the misinformed and deceitful. Everyone has an agenda, whether political , religious or financial. In the mean time compromised, ineffective legislation will pass increasing governments hold on America’s neck. The government is such a big mess with the most crooked, self-serving bastards running everything it’s a wonder we’ve made it this far.
Something has to be done about the condition of our health care situation, almost everyone agrees on that at least. Good people are going without treatments and medication while others are going into debt to the point of bankruptcy trying to stay healthy. Health insurance and drug companies have more power than the Pope and control public opinion and governmental direction with massive marketing campaigns and lobbying efforts. Pharmaceutical companies get away with poisoning us, literally, while robbing us blind and your medical treatments are determined by cost rather than need. It’s all about the bottom line and everything else is hype – period! Without the motivation of money, power and recognition national health care wouldn’t be an issue.
My Proposal (Brian’s National Health Care Reform Proposal)
- Setup a non-governmental research team (Yes, that means private and independent) consisting of every walk of life to get at the facts. Find intelligent and motivated people that can check their views and opinions at the door and get at the truth and determine the best plan of action. Give the team limited authority similar to a grand jury and make them responsible and accountable for their input. If they don’t have the facts they should shut the hell up until they have it right. Just the facts, no predictions and forecasts. How much is it going to cost? Who will national health care reform help and how? Who’s going to loose their businesses from government health insurance programs and why? Exactly how long do we have before a reasonable health plan can be initiated? Anyone found arguing about anything other than the facts should be thrown off the research team.
- Hold people, companies, media and the government accountable when unleashing misleading and deceptive information designed to benefit their agendas at the cost of America’s health. I believe in free speech but you can not go into a populated room and yell ‘bomb‘ and what many are getting away with is much worse. I say lock them up! California can’t take any more prisoners but I’ll donate my backyard for a few jail cells.
- Don’t let one national issue prevent work on other important projects. National healthcare is very important but so are other concerns. At the same time we can’t sit on our hands and debate healthcare reform for another sixty four years.
Can you decide if I’m for or against Nation Health Care Reform? Neither can I, that’s why I’m pissed off. It’s impossible to get National Health Care facts.
That’s Right, I Said It Damit
